Biography

Sharran Makin is a multidisciplinary, national award-winning artist at Lake Macquarie, near Newcastle, NSW. She is best known for her photography, printmaking and painting and loves working with many mediums.

Her work is often inspired by nature, the land, and the Ocean, which has been an essential part of her life. En plein air art is where she feels most alive and inspired, so you may spot her sketching along a local street, a beach, the lake, or the bush, anywhere outdoors, where she can connect with the land, the people, and her art.

Her work has been exhibited in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, The Central Coast, Armidale, Mudgee, Maitland and Bathurst.

In addition, her art and photography have found their way into many homes and organisations owned by several artists and art collectors.

Sharran has a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts through TAFE NSW is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Creative Practice. She has also studied short courses with Master printers such as Michael Kempson and Graham Merchant and the National Art School.

She is an active member of the Newcastle Urban Sketches, Society of Artists Newcastle, Newcastle Lapidary Club, and the Newcastle Printmakers, where she is also a serving committee member.

Inspired by life experience and her 14 years of service as an emergency service worker; she hopes to inspire and give hope to others through the use of art and nature to help with stress and healing.
